Bouncing Baby in T-Town

Caught up with the Huff's over the weekend. Great videos of Caroline as the real bouncing baby:

Here's Caroline post bath:

And got to see Nate put Finn in a submission pose... supposed to be good for training. Consulted my dad on this and he had other idea on how to train Finn:

Oliver's Twist - Great Drinks, Vegetarian Apps

I like meat - alot. So when I hit a place like Oliver's Twist up I go hungry. It's not that the menu items weren't good, they were.... but it's more of a Vegetarian menu (owners came over from Carmelita I think). Anyway, the drinks and vibe was great and it's hands down the best Vegetarian-friendly happy hour in Seattle.

Don't think the menu on the website is updated based on what I vaguely recall having: http://www.oliverstwistseattle.com

Gastro-adventure at Coupage

Post golf and before getting sick from combo sleep deprivation/sunburn, hit Coupage.

Don't know that guy, but that's a picture from the inside

Tartare with the Quail egg was aggressive, but good..........Forgot what this was..

Scallops & Clams... Very Good...................................Coupage burger was excellent
Also notable, but unphotographed was the Mac & Cheese and the Asian Lentils. Somehow, the lentils was one of the best items I tried which says alot since they are just lentils.

Desserts were a huge hit after everyone said, "Uh, do we really need dessert?" Don't know the names on either of these (little help readers).

Overall, Coupage is a great experience with unique food (and some staples for folks who don't want to explore interesting food). Service was top-notch. Would definitely return.

Druid Glen Conquered; Wille Almost Killed by Nick

Wille ponders the day in front of us thinking:
  • Is there any way we are really going to keep playing the whites to make Nick happy?
  • Will Jeff lose all his golf balls and finish the round with an orange ball?
  • Will Nick try to kill me by swerving the cart while I'm hanging off the back like a 12 year old?
  • Will Jeff 4-putt twice or just once?
  • Will that weird guy Tom who tried to kill Jeff with his drive on the 1st tee try and hit more than one shot out of the water with his shoes on?
2nd hole (top Left), 7th hole (top right) (foreshadowing), Nick running clinic (bot right),

Ocho - Spanish Tapas

Ocho in Ballard

Not much to say except great tapas, mediocre service - no need to go back until I check out everywhere else that's new. Shrimp was the best Tapas.

Steelhead Diner - Pike Place Lunch

When I walked in, I wasn't sure about this place. I commented to Burn something about "Johnny Rocket's going upscale." He dismissed my useless commentary and set up base camp by the window (arguably best seat in the house)

We had some clams to get it going - no photo, but they were excellent (WARNING: the bread here is outrageously good - you will eat too much of it). Clams Menu Description (TOTTEN INLET MUSSELS IN PURGATORY With Spanish Chorizo, Roasted Garlic, Serrano Chilies, Tomatoes, Basil & Orange Zest)

Then we tried a couple of the entrees out. The pictures are post splitting of the entrees so don't think they gave us tiny, precious food portions.
  • GRILLED EASTERN WASHINGTON LAMB TOP ROUND *
With Local Wild Mushroom & Crispy Brabant Potatoes
  • GRILLED SKIRT STEAK SANDWICH*
With Oregon Bleu Cheese & Pickled Onions and Arugula

When I go back, I'm ordering the following:
  • KASU MARINATED BLACK COD
With Baby Bok Choy, Shiitake Mushrooms & Ginger Salad
  • GRILLED EASTERN OREGON RABBIT
With Roasted Farro Risotto & Sauce Robert
Steelhead Diner had a great vibe and is recommended.

Seattle Dessert - Dilettante on Broadway

Met up with the old roommate at The Dilettante on Broadway to get our dessert and Scrabble on... First - check this out:

Opening Play vs. Suz - final score 356 (PB)

Here's the deal with
Dilettante: good desserts, solid hot chocolate, and great place to meet up with someone instead a bar or happy hour (in case you're in detox mode). Oh ya and it is without question a first date spot. Suz and I spotted at least 5 first dates during our Scrabble-thon. Con is parking, which is standard for Cap Hill. Oh ya, I tried B&O about 5 days ago and don't feel strongly about one over the other with regard to dessert - I consider both to be good, but not really exceptional (Bananas Foster at Gaucho ruined me)

Interbay golf with burn

swing is coming around

Caucus 2.0

So there are lines to deal with - bottom right is the insane cattle call to finally sign in

Signing in was high tech:

Honestly, this crowd was really fired up:

McDermott in Washington is like Teddy in Mass

Overall, this was worth attending - makes me want to really be a delegate next time, be informed and try to get elected to go to Congressional.... or just play more golf.

Ethiopian Food - When trying new things goes wrong

Trying new food is something I keep coming back to since I was once of those people who didn't eat Sushi until about a year ago and now love it. So when Burn threw out the idea of Ethiopian food, he caught my attention. When he mention that you eat all the food with sponge bread (Injera), I was in. I mean I eat all my food with bread now. I like dipping my bread in everything - it's a european conditioning.

Anyway, we get to Awash in Columbia City, order a combo platter for $18 (feeds three people - great price) and wait 55 minutes for our food. I think it's recommended you pre-order food since it looked like one of the tables did that... not sure. Here's a quick video of the platter and the restaurant:

The food is pretty good - really unique (Burn jump in here with a better foodie description). What killed me was the Injera. Injera is cold, kind of moist bread that kind of masks the flavor of the food and if you're a rookie, you'll use too much Injera to collect your food (scoop it, whatever) - making a stomach ache of some kind inevitable. I feel like I would have had a better experience if I had a fork or spoon at the table. Even though utensils weren't brought over, just Injera, I could I have probably commandeered some.

Here's some video of my Nemesis - Injera.

All in all - glad I tried it so I have a point of reference, but 10 hours after eating it, I still don't feel right.
